Synopsis

A journalist sent to live undetected amongst an emerging religious "cult" becomes swept up in a whirlwind of conflicting ideologies and begins to question all that is known as truth.

Whetstone is an intellectual drama that borders on dark parody. The story follows four characters with unique, and conflicting, perspectives of religion and morality. Without a clear narrator, the viewer must examine their own beliefs to choose between these four unreliable and undesirable narrators.

Questions are the fuel of the story. Who is Eve Garner? She was a homeless woman who ranted from street corners proclaiming that God had spoken to her. Yet, does she believe that she is talking with God? Does she believe that she has been chosen to deliver a message or perhaps that she is the message? Is she nothing more than a mentally unstable woman given credence by a culture desperate for salvation? Eve has gathered a legion of followers.

But who is Collin James? Is he the puppet master to the voice of Eve, controlling her with his ideals, or is he simply along for the ride? And what about Jacob Marcott? Jacob is an everyday preacher in everyday America - taking the bible at its word. Yet, he has been driven to rage and seeks to destroy Eve and her message. But Why?

"Whetstone" is the story of naive journalist Ben Owens - bored with his existence - he seeks challenge and an award winning cover story. He is sent to join the Garner "cult" to befriend them, to befriend her - to learn of their message. He seeks answers to the questions but cannot fathom the truth.

Shot over a period of 10-months, Whetstone is the first digital feature for the Talking Guerilla Company.
